Portrait Commissions

Portrait Commissions

A portrait commission involves the following procedure: after the size, material, and subject have been agreed upon, the decision must be made as to the type of commission. Misters Landry and Gazeley can accomplish the commission in two methods:

For a deceased or historic subject a clay portrait is fashioned using photographs and film documentation and bust measurements when available. For a current portrait an appointment is scheduled for a sitting of approximately two hours. Work will begin in the rough to capture mood and gesture. Photos and measurements will also be taken. When possible a brief life cast allows for a more comprehensive facial portrait giving Misters Landry and Gazeley a model to base facial form design, size and gesture positions. When the portrait is 90% completed a final sitting of approximately one hour will be required to finalize the sculpture. If the portrait is to be cast in bronze agreement will be made for finial delivery based on casting time and the foundry schedule. A Vatican stone or Winterstone portrait will take approximately 4 to 6 months from acceptance of the finial piece.
